Safari 4 Breaks Garmin Plugin

by admin on March 1, 2009

We noticed yesterday that, after installing Safari 4 beta corrupts the Garmin Plugin, Cyclogz will not be able to load logs from your GPS. It turns out that the Safari 4 installation process itself corrupts the Garmin plugin. Here is how to fix it:

a. If your default browser is Safari, change it to some other browser such as Firefox

b. Close/quit all browser applications

c. Reinstall the Garmin Communicator Plugin

d. Then use a non-Safari browser to upload your logs.

These steps work on Mac OS X. We do not know yet know what happens on Windows XP or Windows Vista machines. if you have any info, please let me know.

I looked through the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder and found that “Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.webplugin” was causing the garmin communicator plugin to not get detected by Safari 4. It would be good to find out if this is what you are experiencing. I removed this webplugin and the communicator shows up correctly

Yes. You are right. The Flip4Mac WMV plugin is in conflict with the Garmin Communicator Plugin. After removing that and after restarting Safari 4, Garmin Communicator Plugin works fine.

Thanks for the tip.
