Over the weekend, I updated the site to show the start time of each ride in the local timezone. Say, if you are based on Boulder, Colorado, and rode on Nov 9, 2008, Cyclogz will determine that, on the day of the ride, the local timezone is MST, and show the start time in that zone.

While testing, I noticed that, for some places, Cyclogz is reporting incorrect timezones. This is happening due to some errors in a third-party database that Cyclogz uses to determine the timezone a given place is in. I hope to refresh that third-party data during the coming weekend, and reset all local time calculations. This may fix most discrepancies.

If you find that your ride start time or timezone as reported by Cyclogz is incorrect, please email the URL to the ride, and I will investigate.

By the way, thanks to all the riders, Cyclogz logged the two millionth ft of cumulative climb over the weekend.

Happy to announce that I finished some major data migration today. This process reduced memory/CPU consumption on the server, and increased page download speed, particularly for those pages that show charts and maps. Now on to other features.

Here is a brief list of enhancements that I hope to launch by end of 2008.

• Performance: For obvious reasons, this is at the top of my list. I will be shuffling around some heavier pieces of data (such as log files) so that the server is able to serve them faster. I will complete these changes this week.
• Activity Classifications: While Cyclogz was originally written for cyclists, the infrastructure in place can very well serve runners and hikers. So, I will be expanding the site to serve those as well.
• Support broader range of Gargmin GPS devices: Currently Cyclogz supports Edge and Forerunner. Next on my list is to expand this coverage to more devices. Please watch out for details.
• Improve upload experience
• Implement all bug fixes and suggestions made by several Cyclogz users.

Tonight, I updated Cyclogz to render mile markers beyond 100 miles and 100 km on all maps. Till today, due to some limitations with the icons purchased from a vendor, I was unable to render icons beyond 100. I managed to find an alternative today.
